For those of you who did not know, February 13th was Galentines’ Day--the day when Leslie Knope [Amy Poehler], from Parks and Recreation, declared that ladies everywhere would celebrate with their best girlfriends, the women who understand and comfort you. The fundraising committee headed by Farrah and her team, created a successful formal, yet informal networking event. When our members walked into the room, they were immediately greeted with wonderful food options ranging from hash browns, cake pops, and bagels.
Farrah and the team also arranged for many ice breaker activities. Our first warm up activity was a game of telephone – one person had to create a message and the next person would add something new to make things interesting. The second event was getting to know each other, answering the questions to the paper hearts placed in each table. Third, was coming together as a team to win a bottle of apple cider (yay!). Every person at the table had to stack up 5 hearts onto one.
Lastly, the most meaningful event was making a bracelet for someone at your table. It was memorable because most of the people at the tables had just met each other for the first time, and it was a wonderful opportunity to create and establish more long lasting friendships throughout semester. When someone makes something for you, feelings of warmth, encouragement, and comfort enveloped you in the end, which is the essence of Galentines’ day itself.
