Recently, I have been making Dalonga coffee nearly every week. It’s become quite an obsession and a fun workout. It’s a cheap and delightful drink that you can make at home too!
Dalonga coffee is a South Korean coffee drink that was popularized on social media, particularly TikTok. It only requires four ingredients: hot water, instant coffee, sugar, and milk.
First, you need a 1:1:1 ratio of hot water, instant coffee, and sugar in a bowl. For example, if you use 1 tablespoon of hot water, then you need to use 1 tablespoon of sugar and 1 tablespoon of instant coffee.
Next, you have to whip the mixture with a whisk (or use a machine). This is where the arm workout begins. Similar to meringues, you have to whisk the mixture until you have stiff peaks—this means you should be able to turn the bowl upside down and nothing will fall out. The idea is that you aerate the mixture as you whisk it which will make it fluff fluff.
Once your arm falls off from exhaustion, then you can prepare your drink. Grab a cup, add ice cubes and fill 2/3 of the cup with milk. Lastly, grab a spoon and plop it on top of your milk. Ideally, you will have a aesthetically pleasing cup of Dalonga coffee for your Instagram. When you’re ready to drink it, mix it altogether!
